Abstract

128,170. Graham, J. B. June 12, 1918. Blowing.-Relates to the type of machine described in Specification 127,995 According to the present invention, the neck mould is mounted on a blowing head which is arranged to be swung, after opening the parison mould, so as to carry fhe parison outwardly and downwardly into the open finishing mould. The support for the parison mould is vertically adjustable to adapt the machine for forming bottles of various lengths. The machine is constructed as described in the prior Specification, the operation taking place in eight stages corresponding to the intermittent movement of the rotary tables 44 and 45. After the parison has been blown in the parison mould 81 the mould head is raised and the mould is brought to the fourth station. The parison mould is automatically opened during this movement by cam mechanism leaving the parison supported in the neck mould 82. The neck mould is carried on a blowing head 135 mounted on horizontal shafts 157 and 162, Fig. 8. The head is turned by a pinion 159 gearing with a rack 158, which is moved radially by cams so as to swing the parison downwards and outwards into an inverted position. The blowing head 135 is locked in register with the parison mould by a spring detent 280 engaging a lug 281 on the head. The detent is automatically withdrawn by a pin 282 coming in contact with the mould carrying arm so as to be freed when the mould opens. A second lug on the opposite end of the head allows it to be locked in the reverse position. A stop 283 limits the movement of the head in both directions. The finishing mould is closed on the parison and the bottle is blown by compressed air admitted through a passage way in the shaft 157. Further movement of the tables releases the neck mould, discharges the bottom, and reinverts t.he head 135. The table 45 is vertically adjustable on columns 46 carried by the table 44
