Abstract

15,625. Pyle, G. C. Nov. 5. Blowing.-A machine for making glass bottles, jars, &c., has two sets of moulds carried on separate rotating tables, and the parisons are transferred from one set to the other by a gripper which passes down through the finishing-mould and lifts a parison up into the finishing-mould from a parison-mould. The parison-moulds a, Fig. 1, and the finishing- moulds b are carried on tables c, d respectively, which are revolved intermittently by a cam x'. The tables come to rest periodically with the moulds in the position 1, Figs. 1 and 2, vertically over one another. In this position, a plunger a<1> raises the parison, and a gripper f, which reciprocates at the same time as the pressing-plunger i, descends through the opened blowing-mould and an aperture in the table d, and seizes the parison and lifts it into the blowing-mould, which thereupon closes, the aperture in the table being closed at the same time by the pivoted bottom of the mould. The blowing-moulds open in the usual way, like those described in Specification 23,478/11, and are operated by cams e, e<1> carried by a fixed collar situated just above the table d. In the discharging position, the open mould is tilted by a rod v<1> to eject the finished bottle. After the removal of the parisons, the parison-moulds are cooled by air blasts from nozzles c<2> arranged radially about the central pillar c<1>. The blowing-head q, Fig. 11, and the pivoted yoke-pieoe p, which clamps the halves of the blowing-mould b, are connected to opposite ends of a balance arm r, to which the lifting-rod s is also connected. This arrangement permits the yoke p to come down ahead of the cap q and to remain down for a moment after the cap has been raised, thus ensuring that the mould shall be locked as long as the air pressure is acting. The movements of the two tables and of the pressing-plunger, transfer-gripper, blow-cap, and tilting-device are effected automatically by cams on the driving-shaft l.
