Abstract

1281626 Character recognition SIEMENS AG 28 Sept 1970 [30 Sept 1969] 46011/70 Heading G4R A character recognition system uses a succession of four or more classification stages, detecting features of successively higher order, intermediate storage for features being provided, and possible significances of the features detected in stages after the first being stored in an analysis store from which the probable significance (character identity) is determined by summing and maximum detection. Before storing in the analysis store, the significances are weighted so that the later classification stages dominate. The features looked for in a given classification step depend on the most probable identity as so far determined in the previous step.
