Abstract

1281537 Pulse generator IWATSU ELECTRIC CO Ltd 19 Sept 1969 [20 Sept 1968] 46272/69 Heading H3T A pulse word generator has a signal generator G feeding a distributer A with n outputs, where n is larger than 2, the n outputs are connected via n parallel circuit paths D, P to a mixer M and each circuit path D, P includes a delay circuit D1-D4 and a pulse shaper D10, D20. The delay times of the parallel circuit paths differ by equal increments and means, such as R30, R40, is provided for selectively interrupting the parallel circuit paths to provide the desired binary pulse words. As the result of charge storage in snap off diodes D10, D20 a sine wave input voltage (Fig. 3a, not shown) from the associated delay circuit is shaped by diode D10 (to Fig. 3b, not shown), and by diode D20 (to Fig. 3c, not shown), which outputs are combined to produce an output clock pulse (Fig. 3d, not shown), whose width may be adjusted by variable resistors R30, R40. By suitably adjusting R30 and R40 the pulse produced by diodes D10 and D20 may cancel to produce a zero output or space in the output pulse train. By adjusting the respective pulse shapers P the required pulse code may be generated at the output of the diode mixer D30-D33. The pulse shapers P may be set to produce pulses of the same width and the delay times of the respective delay circuits D1-D4 then increase by equal increments. Alternatively the pulse shapers P may be arranged to generate respective output pulses at equal periods (Fig. 4a, not shown), while the delay circuits D1-D4 produce the same delay. The delay circuits D may be delay cables, the input may be pulses and the delay circuits may be connected after the pulse shapers P. In a modified pulse shaper (Fig. 5, not shown), D10, R30, L10 and L20 are removed and a short circuiting line (S1) is connected to the output of diode D20. The line (S1) acts to produce a pulse of narrower width (Fig. 3d, not shown), from the waveform (Fig. 3c, not shown), produced by the diode D20. A plurality (m) of circuits shown in Fig. 2 may be connected to a mixer to produce an output consisting of m x n bits. The pulse shaping circuit D10, D20 is described in Specification 1,244,394.
