Abstract

1281016 Coated products E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 24 July 1969 [25 July 1968] 37315/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Aqueous dispersions of vinylidene chloride copolymers for coating films are obtained by continuously introducing the monomers into an aqueous polymerisation medium containing a redox catalyst, a non-ionic surfactant capable of lowering the surface tension of water to not less than 40 dynes/cm. and a dispersed wax. Monomer combinations exemplified are vinylidene chloride with methyl acrylate/acrylic acid, ethyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate/acrylic acid, and ethyl acrylate/acrylonitrile/acrylic acid. In each case the surfactant is ethylene oxide/octyl phenol condensate and the wax Carnauba wax. The dispersions are applied to flame-treated polypropylene film.
