1280812 Sub-station apparatus ROBOPHONE Ltd 9 July 1969 [10 April 1968] 17308/68 Heading H4K A telephone answering machine is adapted in response to an incoming call to record a message from the caller and to dial out through an automatic exchange. The dialling out may be effected upon receipt of dial tone after termination of a call or if the substation has two appearances on the network may be effected during the initial period in which a prerecorded announcement is transmitted to the caller. The embodiments detailed dial the number of the speaking clock and record the time of the call. It is also suggested that another subscriber substantion could be dialled and the recorded message relayed to that substation. The machine may be generally similar to that described in Specification 1,061,001 and include a facility for playing back recorded messages upon correct interrogation. The machine has two tapes one for recording messages and the other in the form of a closed loop and used for transmitting the pre-recorded announcement and the signals for dialling out and for controlling the cycle duration of the machine. The time as given by the speaking clock may be recorded on the message tape after each message or in the case of a substation with two appearances on the network may be recorded on a separate track on either tape.
