Abstract

1406263 Substation equipment PIONEER ELECTRONIC CORP 6 Nov 1972 [6 Nov 1971] 51163/72 Heading H4K In a telephone answering machine, the time of each incoming call is recorded on the incoming message recording medium at the end of each message. A local speaking clock provides the time information. The time is recorded after the connection is released so as to minimize metering changes. In operation, ringing current on line 11 is detected by rectifier 12 so as to bring-up relays Y1 and Y3 after a short delay. Y1 connects an answering announcement on an endless loop tape T1 to line via an amplifier 15. A metal foil 18 on T1 short-circuits contacts 19 so as to bring-up Y2 which stops Tl's motor M1 and starts a motor M2 for driving an incoming message recording tape T2. The inertia of tape T1's driving capstan is such that the foil 18 clears the contacts 19 and the head H1 before the tape finally comes to rest. After a predetermined period timer 13 drops relay Y1 so as to clear the connection but Y3 temporarily remains up so as to permit head H4 to read-out the time from time clock 22 (which comprises an hours drum 221 and minutes drums 222, 223) on to tape T2. Finally Y3 drops out to restore the machine to its rest state.
