Abstract
1280776 Gyroscopic apparatus ANSCHUTZ & CO GmbH 10 Feb 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 6427/70 Heading G1C A band-suspended north seeking gyro is aligned with the meridian by damped oscillations, the upper suspension point of the band being rotated at predetermined times in a follow-up movement into alignment with the momentary direction of the azimuth of the gyro spin axis, the time for alignment of the spin axis with the meridian being reduced by providing a band with a tensional spring constant of C = 2DW e cos # the rapid followup movements taking place at time intervals of T s = #3/9 T o wherein D is the angular twist of the suspension band, w e the angular velocity of rotation of the earth, # the local latitude and T o the period of undamped oscillation of the gyro about the meridian.
