Abstract

1280605 Soldering MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON 30 Jan 1970 [31 Jan 1969] 4606/70 Heading B3R [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] Stabilized superconductors comprising wires 2, 2<SP>1</SP> of superconducting material embedded in matrices 1, 1<SP>1</SP> of Cu are joined by being obliquely cut at 3, 31 in a complementary fashion and then soldered together at 4 using a low-grade Ag solder; a superconducting bridge comprising wires 2<SP>11</SP> in a matrix 1<SP>11</SP> is fastened across the joint 4 by rivets 5. Preferably the angle of cut is about 20 degrees. Alternatively, the superconducting bridge may comprise a thin layer of Ni-Sn, in which case the rivets 5 pass through cut surfaces 3, 3<SP>1</SP>. The matrix material may be aluminium.
