Abstract

1280562 Purification of pyromellitic dianhydride VEBA-CHEMIE AG 12 June 1970 [13 June 1969] 28623/70 Heading C2C Pyromellitic dianhydride is purified by treating it with an organic solvent and acetic anhydride in suspension under stirring preferably at a temperature of 0-60‹ C. Suitable solvents are esters of C 1-4 aliphatic monocarboxylic acids with C 1-4 monohydric alcohols or C 2-6 aliphatic ketones. The organic solvent is preferably used in quantities of 1-2À5 litres per kg. of the dianhydride and the acetic anhydride in 1-3 times the theoretical amount based on the free acid content of the dianhydride. The organic solvents used in the examples are methyl ethyl ketone and ethyl acetate.
