Abstract

1280335 Rolling MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 11 Nov 1969 [14 Nov 1968] 55197/69 Heading B3M A continuous rolling mill train comprises a furnace 10, a single core roughing group 16 or a rapid forging machine, a multi-core intermediate group 18 and a set of single-core finishing groups 22. A gas heater 36 is provided to keep the rough sections warm or to heat them further. The output speed of the roughing group 16 is faster than the inlet speed of the intermediate group 18 by at least a multiple of the number of cores. A pivoted guide 34 directs the roughened sections to the vacant grooves of the intermediate group. The heater 36 is shorter than the sections and has a multi-core driving apparatus 38 at its outlet. The billets leaving the furnace are sprayed to remove scale in a device 14. The rolled product is sheared by shears 24, and cooled before being coiled by coilers 30 on conveyers 32. In the alternative embodiment the forging machine (40), Fig. 2 (not shown), feeds the bar or wire stock to a two-core intermediate group (44) through a gas heater (42). The shears (50) may be mounted in front of the intermediate group (44) when the cooling bed length is restricted.
