Abstract

1280079 Separation of volatile solvents from lubricating oil; dry-cleaning BOWE BOHLER & WEBER KG 26 March 1970 [31 March 1969] 14936/70 Heading BIB Solvent-contaminated lubricating oil, discharged from vacuum pump 2 which evacuates air and solvent vapour from housing I wherein textiles or grease-soiled metals are cleaned with a volatile solvent, is collected in vessel 20, after -the treating-operation in housing 1 has been completed, and the solvent is removed from the contaminated oil by opening valve 26 in pipe 25 thereby connecting the upper part of vessel 20 with the suction side of pump 2 so that vaporization of the solvent and foaming of the contaminated oil take place, the solvent vapour being delivered by the pump to condenser 11. The purified oil is then returned via valve 22 to the crankcase of the pump. Material-to-be-treated is placed in housing 1; and the air therein is then extracted by pump 2 and discharged to the atmosphere through oil-separator 7. The pump is then stopped and solvent is added to housing 1. After the material has been treated, the liquid solvent is drained from housing 1, and pump 2 is then employed to extract solvent vapour from the treated material and the housing, this vapour being passed through oil-separator 10 to condenser 11. The treated material is then removed from housing 1. The oil separated in separators 7 and 10 is drained into vessel 20 by opening valves 18, 19 and 26, and is desolventized as already described. If desired, separator 10 and vessel 20 may be heated by circulation of heat-transfer medium through pipe system 30, 31 and a distillation vessel 16 chlorinated and fluorinated hydrocarbons are referred to as solvents.
