1279935 Abrading KRAMATORSKY NAUCHNO ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNO - TEKHNOLOGICHESKY INSTITUT MASHINOSTROENIA USSR 4 Dec 1970 57660/70 Heading B3D A device for lapping tapered mating surfaces on parts 4, 5, such as the bell and cup of a blast furnace charging device, comprises a stand 1 for rigidly fixing one, 4, of the parts, a disc 17 to which the other part 5 is fixed and which is secured to a vertical shaft 11 having a power drive 6 for effecting periodic separation of the parts, and two synchronously operating drives 19 arranged at diametrically opposite sides of the disc and interacting with radially protruding elements 18 on the disc to effect oscillating rotary motion of the part 5. The part 4 is mounted on the stand 1 which has a pair of vertical columns 2 supporting a cross-beam 3 having a bearing for the upper end of the shaft 11. The lower end of the shaft is received within a recess in the end of a rod 9 of a piston 8 movable in an hydraulic cylinder 7 of the power drive 6. An intermediate member 14 is mounted on bearings 12, 13 on the shaft and is bolted to the disc 17 to which the part 5 is secured. The disc is provided with a plurality of the radially-protruding elements in the form of teeth 18. Each of the columns has secured thereto a drive 19 consisting of a cylinder 20 which is secured to a guide 23 for a slide 24 connected to the rod 22 of a piston 21 in the cylinder. Each slide has a pair of cams 26, 27 which are urged to a vertical position by a spring 28. A stop 29 is secured to guide 23. In operation, the surfaces of the parts to be lapped are coated with an abrasive composition and the parts engaged with one another to an extent determined by a nut 10 on the rod 9. When the pistons 21 of the drives 19 are reciprocated, cams 26 engage the elements 18 to rotate the parts 5 until the cams 27 are depressed by the stops 29 so that upon reversal of the direction of motion of the slide, the cam 27 moves under the previously engaged element and engages the next element to rotate the part in the opposite direction for a lesser distance, the operation continuing until the part has moved through one complete revolution. Since opposite sides of the disc are engaged by the cams, no lateral forces are applied to the disc. At each reversal of direction of the part, the power drive 6 is actuated to momentarily separate the parts.
