1279745 Graft polymer compositions STANDARD OIL CO 27 Jan 1970 [27 Feb 1969 19 May 1969] 3856/70 Heading C3G A polymer composition comprises component (A) which is either (1) a polymer produced from (a) at least 70% by weight of a nitrile of structure CH 2 =C(R)CN in which R represents hydrogen, a C 1 -C 4 -alkyl group or halogen and (b) 0 to 30% based on the weight of (a) and (b) of an ester of structure CH 2 =C(R 1 )COOR 2 in which R 1 represents hydrogen, a C 1 -C 4 -alkyl group or halogen and R 2 is a C 1 to C 6 -alkyl group or (2) a polymer produced from (a) 70 to 90% by weight of acrylonitrile and (b) 10 to 30%, based on the weights of (a) and (b) of an olefin of structure CH 2 =C(R<SP>1</SP>)R<SP>11</SP> wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are C 1 to C 7 -alkyl groups and (c) 0 to 20%, based on the weights of (a), (b) and (c) of a monoalkenyl component other than (a) or (b), or a mixture of (1) and (2) and component (B) which is either (1) a polymer produced by polymerizing from 100 parts by weight of monomers as in (A) (1) or (A) (2) specified above in the presence of 20 to 150 parts of a rubbery copolymer of a conjugated diene and at least one nitrile having the structure specified above, said copolymer containing 50 to 95% by weight of diene and 50 to 5% of nitrile, said components (A) and (B) being present in proportions such that the composition contains 1 to 20% by weight of the rubbery copolymer. Exemplified compositions comprise (i) (A) acrylonitrile-methyl acrylate copolymer and (B) butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber grafted with acrylonitrile and methyl acrylate, or isobutene, or with methacrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate, or butadieneacrylonitrile-methacrylonitrile rubber grafted with methacrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate; (ii) (A) methacrylonitrile-methyl methacrylate copolymer and (B) butadiene-acrylonitrile-methacrylonitrile rubber, or butadieneacrylonitrile rubber, grafted with methacrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate; (iii) (A) acrylonitrile-isobutene copolymer and (B) butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber grafted with acrylonitrile and isobutene or methyl acrylate, or with methacrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate.
