Abstract

1279716 Polyesters EASTMAN KODAK CO 30 Oct 1969 [31 Oct 1968 (2); 26 Nov 1968] 53256/69 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and H1] Linear polyesters comprising alkylidenebisaryloxyalkyl repeating units and repeating units of specified formulµ which contain arylene moieties, are made by melt condensation of a bishydroxyalkyl aryl ether with an alkylene glycol and a dialkylene arylate. In a specific embodiment poly-(4,4<SP>1</SP>-isopropylidene-bisphenoxyethyl-co-ethylene isophthalate) is prepared by the reaction of 4,4<SP>1</SP>-isopropylidenebisphenoxyethanol with dimethyl isophthalate and ethylene glycol in the presence of tetrabutyl orthotitanate. In other embodiments ethylene glycol may be replaced by tetramethylene glycol or trimethylene glycol whilst dimethyl isophthalate may be replaced by dimethyl terephthalate. Many linear polyesters are listed.
