Abstract

1279619 Bon-bon crackers HOVELL SON & CO Ltd 5 Dec 1969 [9 Dec 1968] 58433/68 Heading A6S A machine for making bon-bon crackers or cosaques comprises a device (Fig. 2) for deforming a cylindrical tube mechanically preformed from a cracker blank by means of a pair of co-operating link assemblies 36, 37, a mandrel 40 and spring-loaded clamps 41 in which the free ends of each pair of links are connected by cords and on actuating perform a scissor-like action in which cords 51 tighten around the cylinder 33 to form a waist. The cylindrical tube may be made by a device (Fig. 1) comprising two coaxially spaced tubes 1 which contain novelties for the cracker around which a cracker blank is wrapped by means of rollers 16 driven by rollers 26 which are attached to sliding tray 20 and continuously driven by a motor (not shown). The inner ends of the tubes 1 are semi-cylindrical, forming a pocket for the novelties so that on rotation of the tubes the novelties are deposited in the cracker tube. The sliding tray actuates a blank clamp 9 by means of cam 23, arm 13 and spindle 4 when in the drive position. After the cylinder is formed it is held in position by pressure plate 29 while cylinders 1 are withdrawn and the cylinder drops onto the conveyor belt and hence to the aforementioned crimping station.
