1279218 Treating petroleum TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 20 Jan 1971 2820/71 Heading C5E Motor fuel and jet fuel are produced by catalytically hydrotreating a hydrocarbon oil, recovering from the hydrotreater effluent a motor fuel fraction, a jet fuel fraction, and a heavy fraction boiling above the jet fuel, catalytically hydrocracking the heavy fraction and recovering from the hydrocracker effluent a motor fuel fraction and a heavier fraction which is recycled to the hydrotreating zone. A feed 11, e.g. straight run gas oil, cycle gas oil from catalytic cracking, shale oil, tar sand oil or coker gas. oil, is hydrotreated: at 13: at 600- 950‹ C. and: 500-1500 p.s.i.g. using a catalyst comprising an oxide or sulphide of Co, Ni,. Fe, Mo, W, Cr, V or mixtures thereof on a support such as silica, alumina, zirconia, magnesia or zeolite, e.g. nickel, tungsten sulphide on boriapromoted alumina. A hydrogen-rich stream. 16 is separated from the. hydrotreated: effluent which is then separated into fraction 24 boiling up to 550‹ F. and a fraction 31 boiling above 550‹ F. The fraction 24 is further separated into a. light naphtha 27 boiling up to 235‹ F., a, heavy naphtha 28 and a jet fuel 29. The fraction 31 is hydrocracked at 32 at 600-850‹ F. and 500-5000 p.s.i.g., using a catalyst comprising Ni, Co, Pt or Pd, optionally together with W, Mo or- Cr on a carrier such as silica, silicaalumina, or aluminosilicate, e.g. zeolite Y, of reduced. alkali metal content. A hydrogen-rich stream 33. is removedfrom the hydrocracked effluent. which, is then. separated at 40 into a 400‹ F. + fraction which is recycled to the hydrotreating zone, a light naphtha 42 boiling up to 235‹ F. and a heavy naphtha 39. The. heavy naphtha streams 39 and 28 are catalytically reformed at 51 and then combined with the light naphtha streams 27 and 42.
