Abstract

1279044 Hydrocracking; hydrodesulphurization AGENCY OF INDUSTRIAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 10 Feb 1970 [14 Feb 1969] 6367/70 Heading C5E Catalyst beds used for reacting hydrocarbon oils with hydrogen are maintained in a released state by the flow of reaction liquid; the ratio of the volume of the released bed to that of the stationary bed is between 0À9 and 1À1. Preheated reaction liquid is fed through the inlet 5 of a reactor 1 to maintain the catalyst bed 2 in a released state. The reaction effluent is separated to recover hydrogen, hydrocarbon gas, gasoline, product oil and recycle oil. Fresh or freshly regenerated catalyst is added to the top of the bed and since mixing does not occur in the bed the catalyst withdrawn intermittently or continuously through the pipe 4 consists of spent catalyst. Reaction liquid withdrawn with the catalyst is separated at 14 and recycled to the bed through a pipe 12 which, when necessary, can be moved within the pipe 13 to contact the pipe 4 and wash it. The crosssectional area of the reaction vessel 1 can decrease towards its lower end so that a fluidized area is formed at the discharge end of the bed. Released beds of MoO 3 -CoO-Al 2 O 3 catalyst are used (1) to hydrodesulphurize a topped crude at 200 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and 390‹ C. and (2) to hydrocrack a crude oil at 140 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and 440‹ C.
