Abstract

1278492 Launching or trapping pipe-line pigs; closures for pipe-line wall openings GENERAL DESCALING CO Ltd 6 Aug 1969 39479/69 Headings F2N and F2P A device for introducing pigs G into or withdrawing pigs from a pipe-line comprises a tubular section 3, intended for connecting pipe-line ends P1, P2 after removal of the corresponding pipe-line section, section 3 being formed with a cut-out 4, a sleeve 6 movable from the position shown to a position covering the cut-out in a fluid-tight manner, and a pig launcher or trap 5 insertable into section 3 through the cut-out 4. The tubular pig launcher shown is open at both ends. If a pig is to be trapped and withdrawn from the pipe-line, one end of tube 5 is closed, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), and apertures for bypassing the fluid flow between the tube 5 and the sleeve 6 are provided. The closed end region of the trap is provided with a resilient pig buffer and with bleed holes for the fluid trapped between the end wall and an entering pig. Brushes (36, Fig. 3) may be mounted on the nose-piece of the pig.
