1278389 Refractory catalyst supports AFRICAN EXPLOSIVES & CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Dec 1970 [12 Dec 1969 (2)] 58040/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C1] Porous shaped refractory bodies as catalyst supports are prepared by mixing at least one constituent selected from Al nitrate or oxide or hydroxide or TiO 2 and at least one from the nitrates of alkaline earth metals, e.g. Ca, Ba, Sr, Mg and heating to a first temperature, e.g. between 250‹ and 300‹ where partial binding occurs, comminuting, shaping into green bodies and heating to a record temperature, e.g. between 650‹ and 950‹C at which alkali metal titanates or aluminates are formed. Catalysts are formed by impregnating the support with active catalytic material.
