Abstract

1278355 Complexes and polymers form chlorosilanes borate esters and metal chlorides VENTRON CORP 16 Sept 1969 [23 Dec 1968] 45680/69 Headings C3S and C3T A complex or polymer is prepared by heating between room temperature and 200‹ C., until organic chloride ceases to be evolved, a chlorosilane Cl n SiR 4-n , wherein n is 1-4 and R is a C 1-8 alkyl or a phenyl or tolyl radical, with a complex obtained by heating a borate ester with a chloride of trivalent Al, Fe, Ga, or In, tetravalent Ti, Zr, Hf, or Sn, pentavalent Sb, Mo, Nb, or Ta, or hexavalent W, in a ratio of at least 0À33 moles of borate per mole of metal chloride in an inert diluent between room temperature and 200‹ C. until organic chloride ceases to be evolved, the molar quantity of silane not exceeding that of the metal in the complex. In examples the product from reaction of 0À5 mole of TiCl 4 with 1 mole B(OCH 3 ) 3 in CH 2 Cl 2 was heated with (C 6 H 5 ) 2 SiCl 2 or (CH 3 ) 2 SiCl 2 or (CH 3 ) 3 SiCl. The products are hydrolysed by water to give water-repellent gums. The products of Examples 1 and 2 have analyses corresponding to structures of the type and
