1278299 Coated elements L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE 4 July 1969 [5 July 1968] 33923/69 Headings B1L and B2E [Also in Division F1] A gas-adsorbing element for use in cryogenic installations, comprises a substrate formed of a ductile metal and on at least one surface a coating comprising dry particles of a gas-adsorbing material formed into an agglomerate by compression on to the substrate, the density of the coating being substantially greater than the apparent density, before compression, of the particulate material used in the production of the coating. The gasadsorbing material preferably is zeolite and this may contain a neutral filler such as kaolin or alumina. The support is preferably formed of aluminium of high purity, gold, silver or copper. The support may be in the form of a tape which may be coated by passing through a powdering station and then to a rolling station. The coating applied at the powdering station may be of thickness about 200 microns and the particles may have a particle size of 2-10 microns. Compression may provide a three-fold increase in density. In a method for producing the elements the metal sheet is passed through a nip between two compression rollers and the powder fed from hoppers to the surface of the rollers and thence to a surface of the sheet. The layer of particles is then compressed into the sheet material as it passes through the nip between the rollers. Alternatively, the Sheet may be passed through a fluidised bed of the powder and then through the nip between two compression rollers.
