Abstract

1278168 Coated products SEKISUI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 17 April 1970 [19 April 1969] 18605/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A strippable film for protecting the surface of an article comprises a flexible support, and, on one surface of the support, a layer of a film forming thermoplastic polymer containing carboxylic ester groups and having a critical surface tension of 34 to 40 dynes/cm, a softening point of at least 40‹C and a Shore D hardness of not more than 60. Specified thermoplastic polymers which may be applied in the form of a pre-formed film, by melt extrusion, in solution or as a melt are copolymers of vinyl acetate, e.g. with ethylene, polyacrylates and copolymers of acrylic acid esters, e.g. with ethylene. The support may be a fabric, paper, regenerated cellulose, polyethylene film, polypropylene film, a polyester film, a nylon film or polyvinyl chloride film and may be pretreated by corona discharge, flame, oxidation or primer. A film according to the invention may be pressed against a surface of an article, e.g. of acrylic resin coated steel sheet, stainless steel sheet or of an acrylic resin and subsequently stripped therefrom.
