Abstract

1277959 Inflatable life-saving equipment FRANKENSTEIN GROUP Ltd 2 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 49862/69 Heading B7U A marine lifesaving appliance to be worn by the pilot of an aircraft comprises a waistcoat 14 buttoned at 18 and an inflatable bag 26 contained in a horseshoe-shaped pouch 20 composed of two flaps 22 which are permanently joined along the inside of the pouch but which carry loop-andslit fasteners at the outside. The fasteners are engageable by the branches of a branched steel cable 34 which passes through the pouch and is anchored to seat 38 so that, on separation of pilot and seat, cable 34 is withdrawn from the pouch allowing bag 26 to be inflated on hitting the water. Inflation of bag 26 is automatically performed by assembly 28 which contains a water sensitive switch which causes a pin to be fired through the closure of a compressed gas bottle attached to the bag 26. Cable 34 may alternatively be operated by a strap which is attached to a survival pack which accompanies the falling pilot. In a further embodiment, cable 34 is attached to the webbing of the parachute.
