Abstract

1277924 Preparing X-form metal free phthalocyanines XEROX CORP 25 Aug 1969 [26 Aug 1968] 42153/69 Heading C4P X-form metal free phthalocyanine is prepared by (a) mixing phthalonitrile in a pre-heated ammonia-saturated alkylalkanolamine solvent or mixing 1,3-diimino-isoindoline in a pre-heated alkyl-alkanolamine solvent, (b) heating the mixture to about reflux temperature, (c) seeding the mixture with a catalytic amount of X-form metal free phthalocyanine to initiate a reaction and (d) maintaining the temperature for 10 to 70 minutes. The hot reaction product formed thereby is filtered. 2-Dimethylaminoethanol is the preferred solvent and step (a) preferably takes place at 120‹ C.
