1277810 Solid phase polymerization FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 23 Oct 1969 [23 Oct 1968] 52000/69 Heading C3R The degree of condensation of a granular plastics material is increased by introducing the material, which has been pre-heated to a temperature in the range of from the aftercondensation temperature to be applied to 100‹ C. therebelow, into a reactor that is not reduced in cross-section in the direction of flow of material and which contains no interior projections protruding into the flow of material, and heating the material, without agitation, and in an inert gas stream or under reduced pressure, to a temperature at which it after-condenses. The granular plastics material may be polyethylene terephthalate and the process may be a batch or continuous process.
