Abstract
1277591 Making tape UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 3 Sept 1969 [13 Nov 1968] 43636/69 Heading B3A [Also in Divisions C7 and E1] A composite tape comprises fibres enclosed by a matrix of Ti and plasma sprayed Al and/or Mg. A tape is formed by placing a Ti foil around a mandrel, winding fibre on to the foil, and then plasma spraying with Al. The composite tape is then cut transversely and removed. Fibre and Al may then be similarly applied to the other surface of the foil. A plurality of composite tapes may be bonded together by hot pressing. The filament may comprise B and/or SiC.
