Abstract
1277351 Pulse modulators PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 March 1970 [17 March 1969] 12222/70 Heading H3R [Also in Division H1] A device for generating a high frequency pulse modulated carrier wave comprises a cavity resonator 5, a plurality of active diodes 11 symmetrically arranged in the resonator, wherein one or more diodes are connected to the pulse modulator and the remainder of the diodes are connected to a D.C. supply source 54. The diodes 11 may be distributed in a circle and may be energized via low-pass filters. As shown in Fig. 2, the diodes of group 53 are set in their operating modes by variable resistors 29 and source 54. In the absence of pulse from modulator 52, the passive diodes of group 51 damp the diodes of group 53 and hence there is no oscillation. When a pulse is applied from the modulator, all the diodes are activated. Fig. 3 (not shown) indicates an arrangement wherein the cavity resonator is open along its circumference. The diodes may be distributed around several circles concentrically situated (Fig. 4, not shown). A slidable piston 24 in bore 23 is provided for tuning the resonator. A coupling probe 20 may be provided for coupling out high frequency energy.
