Abstract
1277311 Polylactone-polysiloxane block copolymers; polyurethane foams UNION CARBIDE CORP 2 May 1969 [3 May 1968] 22409/69 Headings C3C C3R and C3T A polylactone-polysiloxane block copolymer comprises (i) at least one siloxane block having at least two units RdSiO 4-d/2 wherein R is H or a C 1-18 hydrocarbyl group or a divalent C 2-18 organic group, the second valence of which is attached to a lactone block, and d is 1, 2 or 3, at least one R being a divalent linking group joined to Si by an Si-C or Si-O-C link, and (ii) at least one lactone block containing at least 4 units -(CR<SP>2</SP> 2 ) g COO- wherein each R<SP>2</SP> is H or a C 1-18 hydrocarbyl group and g is 5 or 6. The lactone blocks may also contain C 2-4 alkylene oxide units in random or block distribution, and may be attached to 1-100% of the siloxane units. The copolymers may be prepared (i) by reaction of a lactone, and optionally an alkylene oxide, with a C 3-8 alkenol, optional capping of the free OH group in the product with an alcohol or acid, and reaction of the product with a hydrogen organopolysiloxane in the presence of a Pt catalyst, or (ii) by reaction of the lactone and optional alkylene oxide with water or a mono- or di-hydric alcohol to obtain a hydroxyterminated polylactone which is then condensed with a suitable hydrogen. In examples z-caprolactone and ethylene or propylene oxide is added to allyl alcohol or diethylene glycol monoallyl ether (when alkylene oxide is omitted), and the product is capped by reaction with acetic anhydride, then reacted with a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane to give products of the invention. One of these is used as foam stabilizer in a polyurethane foam obtained from a polyether polyester polyol (from caprolactone, propylene oxide and glycerol), tolylene diisocyanate, water, triethylene diamine and stannous octoate.
