Abstract

1276988 Thermoelectric ignition safety device JUNKERS & CO GmbH 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970 24828/71 Headings F4F and F4T [Also in Division H2] A thermo-electric ignition safety device for a gas burner comprises an ignition safety valve to cut off gas supply on flame failure, which valve is opened by axial depression of a control knob 13 and actuating rod 14, and a piezo-electric ignition device 11 to supply a spark which is operated by rotation of the knob 13 in its depressed position. The piezo-electric device 11 comprises an anvil 17, a holder 18 containing piezo-electric elements and a striker pin 21 arranged coaxially in a housing 16 and a hammer 22 slidably guided in the housing and urged towards the striker pin by a striker spring 25. The hammer 22 has a pin 23 which extends through guide slots 161 in the housing 16 and is acted on by cams 27 formed on the inner wall of a cylindrical sleeve 24 rotatably mounted around the housing. The sleeve 24 is coupled to the depressed knob 13 by a gear arrangement via idler gear 26 so that upon rotation of the knob and sleeve, the hammer 22 is cocked by leading edge 271 and fired. A locking mechanism may be incorporated to prevent reactuation of the piezo-electric ignition device when the ignition safety valve is open.
