Abstract

1276973 Tyre-building apparatus GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 20 Jan 1970 [19 Feb 1969] 2628/70 Heading B7C Tyre building apparatus comprises a drum 22 about which plies 40 are wrapped, and wherein shoulders 44 to receive beads 48 are formed in the plies by inflating a tube 56 thereby causing levers 52 to move radially outwardly circumferentially spaced segments 50, while at the same time a threaded screw 60 is rotated to move support member 34 inwardly, the band then being presented to the shoulder on a circumferential array of hinged segments 100 and the plies turned inwardly by, after removal outwardly of frame 80 to which the segments 100 are pivoted, inflating bladder 38 until the ply ends are forced against a sleeve 120 to provide tension in the plies, Fig. 7, and then moving the sleeve inwardly to force the ply ends back over the beads, Fig. 9. After deflation of the bladder 38 a tread may be stitched to the carcass, the carcass then inflated to a toroidal shape and side walls stitched using the bladder to apply them together with segments 100. The frame 80 together with sleeve 120 are moved along the axis of the drum by an hydraulic ram having a piston rod 88, and guided on rods 84. Limit switch 90 controls the movement of the ram. Ram 140 operates to provide relative axial movement between the frame 80 and the sleeve 120.
