Abstract

1276649 Polymers with perchloroaromatic rings E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 22 July 1970 [5 Aug 1969 27 May 1970] 35548/70 Heading C3R Polymers containing repeating units where A and -A<SP>1</SP>- are -O- or -S-, -Aris a perchlorinated divalent aromatic group having 10 to 24 aromatic carbon atoms and at least two rings wherein any bridges between aromatic rings which are not fused together are not more than one atom in length, and -Ar<SP>1</SP>- is a divalent aromatic group of 6 to 24 aromatic carbon atoms wherein any bridges between aromatic rings which are not fused together are not more than one atom in length. The polymers are prepared by reacting a perchlorinated aromatic compound of formula with at least one compound of formula in the presence of a base and at 25‹ to 250‹ C. In examples polymers are obtained by reacting perchlorobiphenyl with 2,2-di-(p-hydroxyphenyl)propane, with p,p<SP>1</SP>-biphenol, with hydroquinone, with 2,2-di-(p-hydroxyphenyl)haxafluoropropane, with 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxydiphenylsulphone, with resorcinol, with 4,41-dihydroxybenzophenone and with mixtures of hydroquinone and resorcinol; by reacting perchlorodiphenyl ether with 2,2-di(p-hydroxyphenyl)propane; by reacting perchlorodiphenyl sulphide with 2,2-di- (p-hydroxyphenyl)propane and by reacting perchloro-p-terphenyl with 2,2-di-(p-hydroxyphenyl)propane.
