1276482 Rifamycins GRUPPO LEPETIT SpA 5 Jan 1971 509/71 Addition to 1226050 Heading C2A The invention concerns rifamycins of general formula wherein R is t-butyl or benzyl, R<SP>1</SP> is C 1 to C 8 alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or hydrogen and X is hydrogen or acetyl. A process for preparing the above rifamycins comprises treating a Mannich base of general formula wherein R, R<SP>1</SP> and X are as above, with a C 1 to C 8 alkanoic acid, in an inert anhydrous solvent and an inert atmosphere.
