Abstract

1276033 Coated paper SAVO OY 23 Feb 1970 [24 Feb 1969] 8538/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division D2] A precipitating agent is added to white water to form a precipitate clearly differentiable from water, and a polyelectrolyte added in such an amount that molecule aggregates are formed which are capable of reforming after mechanical dissipation, and at least part of the back water containing suspended molecule aggregates recycled by uniformly distributing the suspension in the pulp, and recycling clarified back water so produced to the papermaking process. Part of the treated water containing agglomerates may be applied to a formed paper to give a coating. The precipitating agent may also be a bonding agent, a hardener, a plasticiser, a filler or a colouring agent, and may be Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , NaHSO 3 , Na 2 S 2 O 8 , Fe 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , NaOH or NH 3 solutions, phenolformaldehydes, carboxy methyl cellulose, NaOH solutions of colophony, polyethylene or resin acid-wax mixtures. The polyelectrolyte may be an anionic polyacrylate, polymethacrylate or polyacrylamide; cationic polyethylene imine; or ammonium compounds.
