Abstract

1275788 Rotary screw extrusion press FRENCH OIL MILL MACHINERY CO 8 Sept 1969 [9 Sept 1968] 44297/69 Heading B1D A rotary screw extrusion press, whose shaft 36 carries axially spaced worms 42 .. 50 and whose axially slotted cage carries breaker bars 70 aligned with spacing collars 55 to 68 between the worms, has at least one annular passage 78, between the inlet and outlet ends of the cage, whose cross-sectional area is variable, either by axial movement of sleeve 75 or by dismantling the press and replacing sleeve 75 by another of different internal diameter (Fig. 4, not shown). The cage is formed in two halves of semi-annular construction, and replaceable sleeves are similarly constructed. In Fig. 1, passage 78 is defined between the frusto-conical surfaces of collar 61 and sleeve 75, and sleeve 75 is externally threaded for axial movement by an internally threaded ring gear 80, which is turned by a reversible motor 90 in response to temperature or pressure variations sensed at 91. The discharge end of the press has another movable sleeve 75' and a rotary shredder 96 which shreds the dried rubber crumbs extruded from the press. In an alternative construction, sleeve 75 is moved axially by an array of hydraulic rams fed by a common supply.
