Abstract

1275600 Polyurethane finishing agents FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 25 Sept 1969 [25 Sept 1968] 47253/69 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions D1-D2] A finishing agent suitable for finishing fibre materials (see Divisions D1-D2) comprises a mixture in an aqueous or non-aqueous medium of (A) an isocyanate group-containing reaction product of (1) an organic compound containing at least 2 active H atoms and having a M.W. of 500 to 10,000 and (2) a polyisocyanate, and (B) the reaction product, or the alkylated reaction product, of (3) a compound containing at least one OH group and (4) an aliphatic monoisocyanate. The isocyanate groups of (A) may be free or blocked. Suitable compounds (1) are polyether and polyester diols and compounds (2) are preferably aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanates, but may also be aromatic diisocyanates. The hydroxyl groups of compounds (3) may be reacted partially or completely with the isocyanates (4). It is also possible to react compound (3) partially in a first step with isocyanate (4) and in a second step to react the remaining OH groups with polyisocyanates such that a compound with free NCO groups results. Compound (3) may be aliphatic and cycloaliphatic alcohols, diols, polyalkylene ether diols, polyols, polyalkylene ether polyols, polyether thioether diols and polyesters, those preferred being ethylene oxide or propylene oxide addition products with trimethylolpropane. Suitable monoisocyanates (4) are C 4-22 aliphatic isocyanates, particularly myristyl isocyanate or stearyl isocyanate. When in aqueous dispersion it is preferred to add an aqueous dispersion of a polymer or copolymer based on vinyl or divinyl compounds to the mixture. Perchloroethylene is the preferred solvent for preparing non- aqueous solutions. The reaction product (B) may be alkylated with dimethyl sulphate and an alkali. In a typical example hexamethylene diisocyanate is reacted with a propylene oxide/ trimethylol propane polyether to form reaction product (A) and reaction product (B) is derived from the same polyether and stearyl isocyanate, the mixture being dissolved in perchloroethylene.
