Abstract

1275513 Motor driven hand guided hoe E ZINCK 13 Feb 1970 6942/70 Heading A1B [Also in Division F2] A hoe has tools 6 mounted on two parallel shafts 5 which are arranged transverse to the direction of movement of the hoe, and which are driven by a motor 2 mounted above the shafts so that they rotate in opposite directions. Handle means 7, which is also used for steering, can tip the hoe in a plane parallel to the direction of movement to vary the load exerted on the ground by the set of tools mounted on one of the shafts with regard to that of the other in order to control the movement of the hoe over the ground. The handle shaft 10 can be rotated about its longitudinal axis in a bearing member 16 supported on a frame member 15, which rotation is translated through universal joint 12 to cause the hoe to be steered about the vertical axis 11. The motor 2 drives a shaft 25 by means of a belt 22, means actuated by a lever 30 being provided to release the belt tension in order to interrupt the drive. A further shaft (36), Fig. 7 (not shown) is driven by shaft 25 through a gear train inside the housing 3, the gear train incorporating an overload safety device. Separate chain drives from the shafts 25, (36), are provided for the two tool shafts 5. The tool shaft assemblies comprise a series of tubular members 57 situated on tension members 60, engaged with each other by tongues 58 which also serve to prevent the tool units 6 from rotating relative to each other and to the tube members 57. Tension is applied by bolts 61, and dish springs 63 are provided to enable the tools to be yieldingly displaceable relative to the tension member 60.
