Abstract

1275492 Headers CLAYSON NV 2 June 1970 [2 June 1969] 26509/70 Heading A1F A retractable header 1 comprises three portions 2, 3, 4 the two outer or side portions 3, 4 being able to move relative to the central portion 2, whilst keeping at all times the portions 3, 4 substantially in the same relative orientation from a working position (Fig. 3) to a stowed position (Figs. 4, 6) and vice versa. Side portions3, 4 are provided with sleeves 10, 11 and 12, 13 respectively in which are located shafts 6, 7 and 8, 9 which bear at one end bars 14, 15 and 16, 17 attached to sleeve bearings 18, 19 and 20, 21 mounted on shafts 22 to 25 these being secured to the lifter housing 5 and/or central portion 2, thus forming two parallelogram systems one for each portion, 3, 4. Sleeves 19 and 21 are turned by operating hydraulic cylinders 31, 32 to raise or lower the portions 3, 4 which when in the stowed position, Figs. 4, 6 are held in position by bar 38. The feed auger 56 to 58 and the cutter bar 48 are also in three portions the former having at the junctions additional supports 59 containing bearings and the latter having serrated ends at the junctions which interlock with the adjacent ends said portions being then clamped together. The reel is telescopic its spokes 43 of part 40 offset to spokes 44 of part 39 so that interconnecting rods 46, 45 do not collide. Spokes 43 radiate from a sleeve 47 slidably mounted on tube 39. Two portions 39, 40 are preferably non-circular in section but are coupled if they have a circular cross-section. These various components are driven by a permanently-connected drive means comprising a telescopic shaft 69 with universal joints.
