Abstract

1275415 N-vinyl carbazole BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 5 Dec 1969 [16 Dec 1968] 59698/68 Heading C2C N-vinyl carbazole is obtained by reacting a solution of carbazole in 2-pyrrolidone with acetylene at a temperature between 120‹ and 180‹ C., a pressure between 10 and 20 atmos. and in the presence of a metal salt of carbazole or pyrrolidone or mixture thereof, the metal being an alkali or alkaline earth metal. N-vinyl 2- pyrrolidone is also obtained by this process. An example is given which illustrates this process.
