Abstract
1275154 Automatic analytical apparatus EI DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 14 Aug 1969 [16 Aug 1968] 40670/69 Heading B1X In the operation of automatic analytical apparatus sample containers e.g. 116, Fig. 1, followed by at least one deformable test pack 13 (the number depending on the number of tests to be carried out), are transported from a rack 14 to a filling station 16 where they are correctly aligned by a cyclically movable shuttle 18 and where aliquots of sample are transferred from the containers to the associated test packs. When the required number of aliquots has been dispensed the used containers are discarded via shute 22. The test packs 13 are intermittently conveyed, according to pre set machine readable instructions on the packs, through a thermostatted heat chamber where reagents within reagent storage compartments in the packs are transferred to the pack reaction chamber by rupturing the seals between the storage and reaction compartments by means of breakers 30, 31. The reaction mixture is subsequently analysed in the pack by a photometer 32, before disposal via shute 34. The sample containers can carry identification marks. The test pack, Fig. 2B, comprises a deformable transparent pouch 41, peripherally sealed to a headpiece 40 and communicating therewith by an opening 42. Sample is introduced to a chamber 48 via opening 43 or 44 and 42 which can then be covered to seal the system entirely. A chamber 45 which separates the openings 43, 44 can contain a filter, a gel column or an ion exchange resin if pretreatment of the sample is required. Marks 47 are readable by the apparatus to determine the analytical procedure to be adopted. The reagents are stoved in chambers 49-54 which are broken by upward pressure of the sample liquid when the pouch is deformed.
