Abstract

127,496. Nobbs, C. G., and Nobbs, W. W. Nov. 18, 1918. Addition to 12318/15, [Class 37, Electricity, Measuring &c.]. Heating by electricity.-In a heating-element of the kind described in the parent Specification, in which wire or strip wound upon a strip of insulating-material and placed between similar strips is inserted in a metal tube which is then flattened upon it, the wire and its insulation are enclosed in a metal sheath before insertion in the outer metal tube. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the metal sheath 10 is folded over the mica strips 7, 8 and is clamped tightly by the incurved sides 9 of the tube. The lead wires 18 are brought out through a gap in the tube near one end. As shown in Fig. 1, an element with tapered ends is mounted axially in a water-pipe by means of a saddle-piece 13, and connected through an aperture in the pipe to terminals 4, 5. Such elements may be used for heating and cooking purposes generally, and especially for warming the water for the radiators of internal-combustion engines on aeroplanes.
