Abstract

1,274,700. Antiskid braking systems. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 14 Aug., 1970 [14 Aug., 1969], No. 40740/69. Heading F2F. An antilock arrangement for a vehicle fluid pressure braking system in which the pressure fluid is supplied by a pump driven continuously during use of the vehicle includes a valve connected between pressure source and brake actuating cylinder and operable in response to signals from a skid sensing device to connect the said cylinder to the source or to drain. As shown a four wheeled vehicle has two brake systems applied to the front and rear wheels respectively each having antilock means. A pump 15 supplies two fluid pressure accumulators 23, 23 through a conventional cut-off valve 19 and non-return valves 23C, each accumulator being connected to a spool valve 22 through a driver controlled valve 23D. Each valve 22 has a valve member with lands 32, 33 and connected to a diaphragm 39 dividing a chamber 35 into compartments 37, 38 of which the former is connected to a vacuum source through a tank 48 and non-return valve 49 and the latter is connected through a solenoidoperated valve 51 to a source of compressed air via a tank 59 and restrictor 62 or to vacuum via a tank 55 and restrictor 58. Sensors 67 connected modules 65 provide incipient skid signals to operate a valve 51, cause a pressure differential across diaphragm 39 and move the valve member of valve 22 to connect the motor cylinder 40 to drain and relieve braking pressure.
