Abstract
1,266,673. Antiskid brake mechanisms. AISIN SEIKI CO. Ltd. 9 March, 1970 [8 March, 1969; 5 April, 1969], No. 11272/70. Heading F2F. An antiskid brake control mechanism in an hydraulically operated vehicle braking system comprises a first pneumatic servo mechanism 38 having a diaphragm piston 41 establishing two variable volume chambers 38a, 38b in the mechanism 38, a check valve unit 78 actuable by movement of the diaphragm piston 41 and intended to allow or cut off hydraulic flow between a master cylinder 31 and rear wheel brake cylinders 18, a second servo mechanism 19 having a diaphragm piston 21, 22 establishing two variable volume chambers 11a, 11b, a plunger 12 actuable by movement of the diaphragm piston 21, 22 to increase or decrease the volume of the connection between the master cylinder 31 and the brake cylinders 18, the servo mechanisms 38, 19 being operated by a changeover valve unit 50 on receipt of an electric signal from a skid sensor 66. As shown in Fig. 1, chambers 38a, 38b and 11b are normally connected to a vacuum source 46 and chamber 11a is connected to atmosphere via valve unit 50. In a braking action and upon a skid being sensed a signal is sent from sensor 66 to a solenoid coil 64 of the valve unit 50, this causes movement of a hollow plunger 59 to connect chambers 38b and 11b to atmosphere and chamber 11a to vacuum source 46. Pressure differentials are thereby established on either side of the diaphragm pistons 41 and 21, 22: the diaphragm piston 41 moves to the right to close valve unit 78 by movement of a valve member 26 and thereby break off hydraulic connection between the master cylinder 31 and the cylinders 18; the diaphragm piston 21, 22 moves to the left to thereby move plunger 12 so that the increasing volume causes the pressure at cylinders 18 to be relieved, and the brakes taken off. As shown in Fig. 2 the chambers 116<SP>1</SP> and 386<SP>1</SP> are interconnected by a duct 101 for the simultaneous admission of atmospheric pressure to both upon a skid being sensed.
