Abstract

1,274,159. Aerials. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'AUTOMATISME. 23 Dec., 1970 [23 Dec., 1969; 23 Oct., 1970] No. 61047/70. Heading H4A. In.a steerable aerial a rigid support structure has an annular bearing surface which rests on a set of support rollers fixed to foundations, so that said structure may be rotated about an azimuth axis. As described, a main reflector 15, Fig. 2, of an aerial is rotatable about a horizontal elevation axis 18, and is carried by a metal girder construction 17 on top of a frustoconical concrete shell 51. Fastened to the lower face of the shell 51 is a circular flat rail 52, providing an annular support surface against which bear pairs of support rollers 30, mounted on foundation members 10. The position of each set of rollers 30 is adjustable by means of a jack 55. At least one roller 30, which may have a rubber tyre, will be motor driven, in order to steer the aerial in azimuth. Inside the shell 51 an inclined face defines a second bearing surface, having the form of a surface of revolution. Guide rollers fixed to the foundation members, and having axes parallel to the inclined face, bear against that face, and maintain the central axis of the first bearing surface in alignment with the azimuth axis of the aerial (Fig. 5, not shown). There is a cabin 19 in the shell 51 and another cabin 53 is provided below. A lift shaft 12 extends upwardly from the cabin 53, allowing access to the aerial proper. In another embodiment, the aerial is shown as of Cassegrain type, and a metal girder construction by which it is carried is extended to a cylindrical metal structure having a lower face defining a substantially horizontal annular bearing surface. Said surface rests on support rollers fixed to the top of a concrete cabin (Fig. 1, not shown). Retaining rollers and centering rollers are also provided, one of the latter being adapted to provide drive for azimuth steering (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). The main annular bearing surface may be of frusto-conical shape instead of flat, and rest upon tapered rollers whose axes meet at a point on the azimuth axis below said rollers, in order to provide a self-centring action.
