Abstract

1,273,974. Vehicle ignition warning systems. MULLARD Ltd. 22 May, 1969. [29 March, 1968], No. 15138/68. Heading H2H. [Also in Division G3] An automatic voltage regulator for the rectified output (unreferenced) of a vehicle alternator (not shown) comprises a conventional arrangement C supplied from auxiliary diodes 2a connected to the alternator windings, the field winding 3 and its controlling series transistor 7 being supplied from the battery or the main rectifier through the ignition switch 4. Thus the diodes 2a need only be of the low power type and the regulator C is supplied with a more stable voltage compared with a known arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), wherein the auxiliary diodes supply both the regulator and field winding. The described embodiment also enables an ignition warning lamp 5a of reduced power to be used. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the portion of the regulator including members 7, 8, 9 and their associated components is supplied from the terminal F +, the other circuit connections remaining unaltered. The sensing network 11-15 may be supplied directly from the battery by provision of a further sensing wire and terminal, Figs. 2a and 4 (not shown), the latter embodiment also including an additional transistor and terminal for controlling the warning lamp.
