Abstract

127,384. Drummond, A. May 23, 1918. Disk apparatus.-Tools for cutting Whitworth threads are ground by apparatus in which the tools, previously shaped to the correct flank angles, is mounted in a rocking member, the axis of which passes through the centre of the curve of which the rounded nose is to form part, and thereby rocked over the surface of a grinding or lapping wheel. The tool is adjustably mounted in a carrier a<2> mounted on a rocker a pivoted at a<1>. A grooved block d, Fig. 5, accurately shaped to correspond with the flank angles of the cutting- tool, is placed on the grinding-disk c and receives the cutting-tool to facilitate accurate adjustment of the tool prior to grinding. The initial adjustment of the disk c and its upward feed during the grinding operation are effected by a hand-wheel g on the grinder spindle, which is driven by a belt h<1>.
