Abstract
1,273,835. Defibrillators. CARDIAC RECORDERS Ltd. 19 April, 1971 [4 Dec., 1969], No. 59251/69. Heading A5R. A cardiac defibrillator comprises an electrolytic capacitor 1, an inductor 3 and a discharge switch 4 connected in series with the patients chest 7 by means of contacts 5, 6, and means of preventing the reverse charging of the capacitor which would otherwise occur when the switch 4 is closed due to the oscillatory current in the L.C. circuit formed. As shown, a plurality of capacitors 1 may be used, with diodes 2 as a means of preventing reverse charging. Alternatively in Fig. 4, not shown, Zener diodes (10) are used to prevent reverse charging, the Zener diodes also serving as a safety device to limit the voltage to which the capacitors are charged.
