Abstract

1,273,661. Knitting machines. EDOUARD DUBIED & CIE S.A. 23 Feb., 1970 [24 Feb.. 1969; 22 July, 1969; 20 Aug., 1969], No. 8633/ 70. Heading D1C. [Also in Division G3] A knitting machine is electronically controlled from a pattern by storing elemental information defining the pattern in a memory which is interrogated in dependence on the characteristics of the knitting machine. As shown, a rectangular pattern 1 is transmitted to a data processing device 4 by a keyboard 2, with a card reader 2a, or by an automatic co-ordinate reader. The data-processing unit, having a cross-bar memory 12, or a corestore memory 59 and provides control signals for a power stage 9 controlling a circular knitting machine 10 as to reproduce the pattern. The control signals are fed direct to the power stage or indirectly through a recorder 5, producing a film, or a magnetic or punched tape. The film is developed in a processing machine 7 and fed to a reader 8 deriving the control signals for the power stage 9. In an alternative arrangement 2' for the input to the data-processing unit a command console 139 is provided whereby, through keyboards 141, 142 a tape-puncher 145, reader 146 and a display memory 147 whereby the signals from the pattern 1 fed in manually or via the reader 3 can be checked or modified before being fed to the data-processing unit 4. Reference is made in the description as to how the installation can be modified for the control of a plurality of knitting machines and for colour composing and it is stated that alternatively one or more rectilinear knitting machines could be controlled.
