Abstract

1,273,565. Tube stopper. TEMPLE INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 17 Sept., 1969 [26 Nov., 1968], No. 55918/68. Heading F2P. [Also in Division A4] The free end portion of a tubular furniture leg 10 is received in an annular space 15 between tubular parts 12, 13 of a ferrule 11, a bearing portion 14 of the ferrule extending across the free end of the leg and the ferrule being retained by resilient compression of the part 13 in the free end portion of the leg. The part 13 may be expanded by insertion of the shank 17 of a resilient plug 16, inward movement of the plug being arrested by engagement of a surface 20 on a head 18 with a shoulder 21 on the bearing portion 14 at a point at which the lower surfaces of the plug and bearing portion are flush. The ferrule and plug are made of natural or synthetic rubber, polypropylene, polyethylene or ethylene vinyl acetate and each may be made of a different material. In a modification for use with furniture legs which are inclined to the vertical the lower surfaces of the plug and bearing portion are inclined to the longitudinal axis of the tubular parts and locating flats are provided on the shank and on the inner surfaces of the inner tubular part 13.
