Abstract

1,273,086. Rectifying. INDUSTRIE A. ZANUSSI S.p.A. 13 May, 1970 [17 May, 1969], No. 23267/70. Heading H2F. [Also in Division G3] A washing machine is driven by a D.C. motor 2 which is supplied through a constant-current transformer 18 and a bridge including controlled rectifiers 11, 12. When the speed of the motor is below a predetermined value, a transistor 48 is cut-off at the instants when the full-wave rectified voltage derived from a mains-supplied network 24-27 reaches zero, the transistor becoming conductive immediately after. A transistor 45 is rendered conductive each time the transistor 48 is cut-off, whereby rectifier 39 operates to trigger the rectifiers 11, 12. The motor thus receives a continuous train of halfwave pulses having twice the mains frequency and in phase with the mains voltage. A reference voltage is developed across a capacitor 40 and is compared with a signal representing the motor armature voltage derived from bridgeterminals 57, 61. If the speed exceeds a predetermined value set by selector switch 60, transistor 52 becomes less conductive and Zener diode 51 breaks down. Transistor 48 is then rendered continuously conductive to cutoff the transistor 45 and prevent energization of the motor until the speed is reduced to the desired value, entire half-waves of the motorcurrent being suppressed rather than portions thereof. Steep-fronted pulses, which cause R.F. noise, are thus avoided. The components 39, 45 may be replaced by a multivibrator and amplifier, and the motor speed may be sensed by a tachometer.
